Little Learners Love Literacy
All students in Prep to Year 2 are taught a systematic synthetic phonics approach as part of their reading program. The Little Learners Love Literacy program (LLLL) is an evidence based method of teaching reading where students are taught the link between letters (graphemes) and the speech sounds (phonemes) they represent. It is an explicit and cumulative approach to the instruction of reading and spelling, with high intensity and frequency.
The reading process involves decoding (breaking words into separate sounds then blending them back together) to read unknown words. In the LLLL program students learn how blending and segmenting is a reversible process. If you can read a word you can spell it.
